The History of LINX Camps
Summer 2009: LINX Camps 1st Year
LINX Camps began in 2009, not long after camp management veteran Josh Schiering joined the LINX team as Executive Director of LINX Camps. Operating out of our 141 Linden Street location in Wellesley, MA, we served a handful of campers who were bused to Morses Pond daily for swimming.
Fall 2009: Dedicated to Growth
Motivated by our positive experience, we searched for a property that would give us the opportunity to grow and serve more camp families. We established a partnership with the Massachusetts Horticultural Society (MHS) and secured use of the Elm Bank Reservation on Route 16 at the Wellesley/Dover line, now known to LINX Campers as the Mass Hort Elm Bank (MHEB) Campus.
Summer 2010: LINX Camps 2nd Year
Serving approximately 30 campers per week, LINX Camps received rave reviews from families. Our team embraced the LINX fun-based learning philosophy and worked hard to create a camp experience to remember!
Fall 2010: The Oasis
The major logistical challenge to MHEB was the lack of swimming facilities. After our first successful summer, we set out to find a solution. Working closely with MHS and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, we were able to add swimming facilities to the property. The Oasis includes 8 above-ground, heated pools of varying depths to accommodate swimmers of all ages and abilities, as well as changing tents and a Spray Zone for hot summer days.
Summer 2011: LINX Camps 3rd Year
Building on a terrific first year at MHEB, the full-time LINX team got the word out about LINX Camps. In 2011 we added 5 LINX Camps Buses and served over 200 campers per week! We continued to add terrific summer staff to our management team, including long-time camp veteran Wally (Mark Waldeck) who joined us as Director of Junior Camps.
Fall 2011: An Invitation to Dana Hall
LINX Camps was invited to operate out of the Dana Hall School in Wellesley. With 50+ acres, a 93,000 square foot indoor athletic training center, a 6 lane, 25 meter heated swimming pool, a full-service dining hall, and much more, it was an opportunity we could not pass up. So we began working on a plan to establish the Dana Hall Campus.
Summer 2012: LINX Camps 4th Year
In the summer of 2012 we operated out of both the Mass Hort Elm Bank Campus and the Dana Hall Campus serving over 300 campers per week. We employed over 120 full time summer employees and offered over 20 premier camp programs. Additionally, we worked hard to improve communications and make camp planning a cinch for our loyal camp families.
Fall 2012: Restructuring Campuses & Adding LX Camps
After assessing our 2012 camp season and interviewing our camp families, we've made some exciting changes and additions for 2013! MHEB will now be home to LINX Outward Adventures Camps for ages 3 years to 8th grade, while our Dana Hall Campus will house all of our General, Specialty and Sports camps, including the new LX Sports Camps and LX Performing Arts Camps for ages 3 years to 10th grade.
We are looking forward to the 2013 camp season with great anticipation. As an industry leader in day camps, we will continue to strive to meet the needs of all of the families and communities we serve. By maximizing our offerings and utilizing our properties to their fullest potential, we aim to continue to provide campers with a superior summer camp program.
