Mark "Wally" Waldeck joins Josh Schiering at LINX Camps for 2010

WELLESLEY, MA- December 18. LINX Summer Camps announces the addition of a camp legend to their staff.  Mark Waldeck, more popularly known as Wally, has joined the LINX team for their 2010 season to serve as the Director of General Camp and Entertainment.  He brings with him over 20 years of experience in the summer camp industry and an established working relationship with the camp's Executive Director, Josh Schiering, who says he is excited about having Waldeck on board.

"Wally has the unique ability to captivate large audiences, keeping them entertained and laughing, while providing enriching and dynamic programs that help children become a part of a larger camp community, " says Shiering.  "He is incredible at creating a traditional camp experience that makes everyone want to come back for more."  During their years together, Waldeck and Schiering worked closely together to ensure that each camper in their care had the best time possible.  Wally served as a section supervisor for hundreds of staff and as an entertainer for thousands of children, while Schiering was responsible for overseeing the camp activities and its employees.  "Wally and I worked together for seven years at Camp Sewataro," adds Schiering.  "I was smiling from ear to ear when he called and said he was interested in working with me again."

During the winter months, Wally is a full-time science teacher at Clarke Middle School in Lexington, but says he is always looking forward to summer and camp.  He began his camp life as a CIT over 20 years ago and proceeded to work his way up the ranks.  "I like to inspire the excitement and sense of wonder in campers," says Waldeck.  "As the counselors are an essential part of that wonder, my focus has been on training staff to be able to unite a group through camp activities while serving as positive role models and having fun.  As I always say at least once during staff training, 'If you are having fun, they are having fun."  Over the years Wally has become known as a camp legend and campers look forward to seeing him each summer.  Shares Waldeck, "I really appreciate it when parents approach me outside of camp and share with me what a wonderful time their child had and how I helped add to that experience."

Waldeck also expressed that he is looking forward to reconnecting with Schiering.  "The synergy that exists between Josh and me is unparalleled.  We bring out the best in each other.  He's the big idea guy and I take care of the details."

Along with Waldeck, LINX Camps will be staffed by the organization's year-round leaders who are experts in their fields.  Since many campers also take one or more classes throughout the school year and have come to know and trust their LINX Leaders, it will be an easy transition, especially for the younger children.

The addition of Waldeck to the camp staff is just one of several changes that LINX is making for their 2010 camp season.  After signing a long term agreement with the Massachusetts Horticultural Society in September, LINX began talking to parents whose children attended camp in order to see what improvements could be made to their program.  Though they had a successful inaugural summer in 2009, LINX Camps is undergoing a vast expansion this year with new options of specialty camps, extended day programs, transportation, and a new swimming pool.  "We listen very carefully to our parents and I am confident that we have put together the perfect blend of camp programs and extras that will meet the needs of many," says Schiering.

LINX Camps offers 10 one-week sessions that begin June 21, 2010 and run through August 27, 2010.  In addition, LINX offers 3 pre-camp weeks at its Linden Street location.  Campers can choose between the General Camp, which gives children a variety of camp activities each week, or one of 6 Specialty Camps and 6 Sports Camps which focus on a particular area of interest while also adding some camp favorites to the campers' schedules.
