Summer '09 - Science and Nature Explorers Camp

Our Science & Nature Campers explore the 36 acre property of Elm Bank while uncovering the mysteries of our natural environment.  Campers enjoy all the programs of our general camp (canoeing, crafts, sports and team building) with the scheduled addition of science and nature activities.

SCIENCE
Children will explore solar energy, hybrid technology, hydro-electric and wind power in this advanced science program. Projects may include designing and building robots, building a solar-hybrid scooter or a 4-wheel surf board with remote controlled accelerator. Campers also take a closer look at water samples and river life while going on nature scavenger hunts and identify birds, butterfly, trees and the creepy crawlies hidden within the nature trails at Elm Bank!

NATURE
Campers love getting their hands dirty as they plant their own gardens, start a recycling center and make their own compost! While working with the Master Gardeners and Elm Bank Property Managers on weekly service projects, campers work to beautify and restore the grounds at Elm Bank.

Inventors Workshop and Special Effects (session 3 only):  From challenge and concept to actually making it happen! Children are inspired in the Inventor's Lab as they build bridges, dams, planes, kites, cars and even a life-size hovercraft. Using Legos, Kinex and raw materials campers imaginations get turned into reality. Then it's time for CyberZone Special FX when campers get to recreate some of the coolest scenes from movies and the special effects necessary to make the scenes happen. From Light Saber battles and flying unicorns to exploding volcanoes, our team of FXers will learn all the latest tricks. All content created in class becomes viewable online.

Sample Schedule

This program is for children entering 2nd - 8th grade. Campers are divided into age appropriate groups.
The Best of Both Worlds: Daily drop-off is at Elm Bank. In the event of inclement weather or extreme heat, drop-off will be at the LINX Enrichment Club (only 5 minutes away).  A daily notice will be posted on our website as to where drop-off will take place.  In the event of mid-day inclement weather, we will use indoor facilities at Elm Bank.
